Company History

Modern TV and Appliance has been servicing the Killeen and surrounding area since "1957".

We are the oldest business in the same location in Killeen Texas. We're the "ONLY" locally owned TV and Appliance Store in Killeen. Owner Operated, means better and more efficient service to your our customer with the ability to make decisions without all the hassle.

The sign on the old train station that houses the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce reads "We Support Our Troops". Tommy Joe Mills thinks it's the other way around.

T.J. has seen four generations of the Mills family work at Modern TV and Appliance.His Dad Bill Mills ran the used appliance and TV sales in the 1960's, and two of the grand sons, Courtney and Cullen Mills help with deliveries during the summer months and school holidays during the 90's.

His son Billy J. Mills moved back to Killeen to join the Modern TV team in 1982. The father and son duo work the sales floor daily and both agree that selling is fun and they both enjoy coming to work each day. Billy says of his Dad, "I've never seen anyone that enjoys what he does more than T.J.".

Pearl Harbor Day 1957, Mills opened Modern TV and Appliance at 315 East Avenue C in downtown Killeen. Forty seven years later, Modern TV and Appliance is the oldest business in the same location and the city's only TV and Appliance dealer with an on-site service department.

But for both the Mills the relationship runs deeper than business. You can tell as much in the wall of framed photographs that catches your eye when you walk into T.J.'s second floor office. Row after row of General and Sergeants Major in uniforms as well as several CONGRESSMEN! T.J. Mills has served as AUSA president on the Military Affairs Committee, and Community Advisory Board; he is currently serving as Civilian-Aide-at-large to the Secretary of the Army. In 1995, T.J. received the "Good Neighbor Award".

Billy Mills is a past president of AUSA and is currently the chairman of the Military Affairs Committee of the Greater Killeen Chamber Of Commerce.Both Mills agree that "we work very hard to earn the trust and business of Central Texas", and because of our customers and friends, military and civilian alike, we'll compete with the Big Boys, because of our service and commitment to truly be, "the only appliance store you'll really need!!
